Making the switch from a physical school to an online school can feel like a big change. As with anything new, it will most likely feel a little strange in the beginning, and this is normal. There are a few tips we have picked up over the years from our students on how to give yourself the best chance of learning as much as possible on the typical school day.

Here are our top 5 online learning tips:

1. Make yourself comfortable, but not too comfortable!

It is important when actively learning that you are in a space free of distractions that you feel comfortable and happy in. The joy of online schooling is you can choose to study anywhere as long as you have an internet connection. Create yourself a dedicated workspace that is quiet and organised. A desk or table is usually best.

Try to avoid learning laying down on places like sofas and beds, your body is used to relaxing and sleeping when in this position, and for the best learning experience, you need to be alert and awake!

2. Stay active

It is important to keep both your mind and body active during the typical school day, which is why we hold our Energise session mid-morning. These sessions are fun, active, and great for refocussing the mind.

During the breaks throughout the day, we actively encourage our students to go out for a walk or kick around a football in the garden to get your heart pumping. It is essential to give your eyes a break from the screen too.

3. Being organised will get you ahead

Make sure your books, computer, pens and notepad are all easily accessible for when you need them. It is also good practice to turn off your phone and log out of all social networks when you're studying, preventing any further distractions.

Organising your workspace and making sure everything is ready for when the live classes start will ensure that you get the most out of every lesson.

4. Don't be afraid to ask for help

We have a raft of resources available to our students both in and outside the classroom. Our Learning Enrichment Team is on hand to help each student identify their ideal learning style. Our core-team also have a wealth of experience in supported learning and assistive technology, so all students at the Oxbridge Online School will receive the tailored help they need to succeed.

5. Engage, even if you don't feel like it. It works!

It is important to engage in each of your lessons; if you sit back and drift off, it can become easy to lose your concentration. All of our teachers will aim to actively engage every student by asking questions and carrying out group activities.

We also encourage our students to take notes during lessons and interact with their classmates. Don't be afraid to ask questions and talk about topics with your friends and family outside of class.
